And then there was Sunergia . . .

Jon Kessler's the mad soy scientist. Janus Raphaelidis is the gregarious Greek. Marsha Burger's the one with some good common sense. Ben and Cora Kessler (ages 3 and 9, respectively) are the master tasters and on many days, in charge of setting the office schedule. Danny Schmidt does the graphics when he's not "cutting an album."

We all met at the Twin Oaks Community in Louisa, Virginia, an intentional community (more an intellectual utopian farm than a hippie commune) where Jon had managed the community's regional tofu business since 1991. Upon moving to Charlottesville in 1997, Jon and Janus conceived Sunergia Soyfoods and began fine-tuning Jon's innovative soy recipes while market-testing them at farmer's markets and natural food stores in the area. When we noticed that folks in Berkenstocks and John Deere hats alike were raving about our soyfoods, Jon and Janus decided it was time to take our SOY TO THE WORLD.

Then in the summer of 1999, Jon and Janus expanded the test marketing to kindly natural foods stores in Washington DC, where our innovative soyfood recipes were very well received. Then came the '99 Natural Foods Trade Show in Baltimore -- where Jon and Janus announced the availability of Sunergia Soyfoods to stores and distributers along the East Coast. That weekend Sunergia went from being in a few stores to hundreds.

Sunergia is still expanding by leaps and bounds, and is now selling across the country and Canada. Look for us in your local market, and if you don't see us, ask your store manager to bring in the SOY YOU'LL ENJOY!

 Stay tuned.
